Psoriasis

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an inherited, chronic skin condition that produces red scaly patches on the skin. The scalp, elbows, knees, legs, arms, buttocks, and genitalia are most commonly affected but other areas of the skin can also be affected.  Changes in the appearance of the nails and joint pain can also occur.

How is Psoriasis treated?

Medicines applied to the skin can be effective for many forms of psoriasis either alone or in combination with other therapies.

Phototherapy, the use of light- either natural sunlight or phototherapy administered in the office-can help to improve psoriasis.

Biologic medications target certain parts of the immune system.
