Hyperhidrosis

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive perspiration, is a medical condition which affects 2-3% of the population and can be treated in a number of ways. Primary hyperhidrosis usually affects the undearms, palms, and/or soles, but can affect any part of the body. Excessive sweating can interfere with everyday activities, such as turning a door knob or using a computer, and can affect one's social and emotional health.

How Is Hyperhidrosis treated?

There are a number of topical (applied to the skin), oral, and injectable medications.  These are usually covered by insurance. Topical preparations are beneficial for localized areas of hyperhidrosis. Oral medications are helpful for more widespread hyperhidrosis. Botox injections are a safe and FDA approved treatment which can provide long lasting relief from hyperhidrosis of the underarms, palms, and soles.
